Oak Brook, IL (PRWEB) July 20, 2012
Today, leaders from Advocate Health Care, the nations largest commercial Accountable Care Organization (ACO), released its year-one results from its landmark shared savings model, AdvocateCare to Congressional Staff members in Washington D.C.
The results show that Advocate through AdvocateCare is bending the cost curve and has seen significant improvements in clinical outcomes including lower readmission rates, improvements in length of stay, reduced costs and better coordinated care. Earlier this month, Advocate was selected to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) ACO, a multifaceted new program sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Through the MSSP, Advocate will work with CMS to provide Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries with high quality service and care, while reducing the growth in Medicare expenditures through enhanced care coordination.
Our keen focus on care coordination, prevention, early detection and education is ensuring our patients receive the right care, at the right time and at the right place, said Lee Sacks, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer, Advocate Health Care. We look forward to working together with CMS to ensure millions of people with Medicare get better, more patient-centered, coordinated care.
Advocates entry into the MSSP will extend the benefits its seen from its shared savings model to thousands of Medicare patients. In fact, it is estimated that 2.4 million Medicare recipients will receive better and more coordinated as a result of the 89 new ACOs announced by CMS.
