One Direction made history as their debut album Up All Night entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at #1 with over 176,000 copies sold. The band became the first British group ever to debut at #1 in the U.S. with their debut album release. Up All Night went straight to #1 on the digital chart within minutes of its official release last March.
Fans of the popular group are making history as well, creating and launching a mobile app on appcatch.com that to date has resulted in over 40,000 launches.
The group will play a farewell show on Dec. 3 at Madison Square Garden and wont be back in the U.S. until June of 2013.
The app was designed to allow fans the opportunity to follow the progress of the band and wisely links to One Directions official website. There is a video page that offers alternative versions of the bands hits, such as an acoustic rendition of One Thing and a blog page that links to a list of official band member blogs. The app is a must for fans who want immediate smartphone access to their favorite group.
The One Direction mobile app from appcatch.com, a fan app made by fans, for fans, is a great example of DIY app building as a hobby.
