Possibility of Saab 9-3 EV
The company which recently purchased Saab, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, will soon be launching its first model since formation of the company. NEVS is owned by a Chinese and Japanese investment group. One of the more popular models in the old lineup, the Saab 9-3 sedan, is considered by many to be a likely candidate for electrification by NEVS, though the company has not confirmed that its initial retail model will be an EV. GM Unveils Power Source Built on Volt Batteries
General Motors and ABB Group displayed a residential power backup system which is composed of five used batteries from Chevy Volt hybrid-electric cars. The mechanism provides enough energy to power three residences for up to two hours. Maximum output is 50 kilowatt hours, and the project was a joint effort among GM, ABB, and Duke Energy. ABB is a Swiss technology firm specializing in power and automation. Duke Energy is based in North Carolina. For the complete story, see:

Chevy Spark EV Heads to LA Auto Show
The Chevrolet Spark EV will be introduced at the upcoming LA Auto Show when the event opens its doors in late Nov. The car is set for retail release in 2013, at which time it will become a direct competitor against the Nissan Leaf and the Ford Focus EV. The Spark EV is the first major GM technology debut since the hybrid-electric Volt arrived three years ago. While the Volt is a hybrid, the Spark EV runs only on electricity. Ford Motor Co. Expanding EV, Hybrid Dealer Network
Ford Motor Co. will soon triple the number of its dealerships qualified to sell hybrid and electric vehicles. Currently, Ford has 200 retail locations that offer alternative fuel cars and trucks. Sometime in 2013, the company hopes to add more locations to the network. The C-Max hybrid and C-Max Energi plug-in, as well as the Fusion hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-in are four of the automakers soon-to-be-offered models that are either traditional hybrids or the newer plug-in variety. Tesla Motors CEO Discusses EV Future
Speaking in the aftermath of the recent U.S. national elections, Tesla Motors CEO, Elon Musk, made public comments about the future of electric cars in the U.S. market. Musk is optimistic about the prospects for the technology. The auto executive also delivered his ideas about federal tax credits for buyers of electric cars like the Tesla Model S and others. He advocates a federal credit of $ 10,000 for buyers. During the same week that Musk made the comments, his companys Model S was named Motor Trend Car of the Year, marking the first time that an EV has won that prestigious award.
