Sponsored Results is Facebook’s first foray into search based advertising results and is being seen by analysts as a step in the right direction. Currently when a Facebook User searches within the Facebook search bar they will now see paid and free results. The results are similar to Google Adwords and Bing’s paid advertising. The move positions Facebook to break into the search market and expand it’s advertising reach.
Recently Facebook has been making a number of changes to their paid advertising offering expanding the services available to businesses seeking to utilize Facebook for business means. While analysts are welcoming this new advertising medium is still one step short of where they predict Facebook needs to be. Currently advertisers can only place ads within this Sponsored Results offering promoting their Facebook Fan Page. Analysts believe that for Facebook to be embraced by advertisers they need to allows these ads to direct to 3rd party sites.
One of the constraints of Facebook advertising which is causing grief for business owners is that they can only direct traffic to other internal Facebook pages. Ultimately businesses believe they can get a better conversion if they are directing traffic to their own sites and landing pages.
