Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) September 19, 2012
Due to the rising cost of chronic disease in this country, both the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology and Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) are looking to providers to implement technologies like secure patient portals and secure messaging by 2014. Hospitals that can prove they not only have the technology in place but that at least five percent of their patients are actively using it can demonstrate they have met Meaningful Use objectives and measures and qualify for incentive payments under the HITECH Act. In parallel, mandatory government programs like Medicares Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program have been put into effect to ensure that avoidable post-discharge readmissions are dramatically reduced.
With millions of dollars in incentives and penalties at stake, hospitals are turning to their marketing departments to ask for help in increasing patient engagement, activation and compliance. Not only are engaged patients more likely to accurately understand their diagnoses and potential complications, but they tend to be better equipped to follow recommended treatment plans and implement and sustain lifestyle changes that result in improved long-term outcomes.
Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD) attendees will have the opportunity to join MEDSEEK predictive analytics experts to discuss healthcare marketings role in driving patient engagement including patient portal adoption for Meaningful Use and influencing patient behaviors to increase patient activation to improve wellness, reduce costly readmissions and increase revenues.
