Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) October 03, 2012
In the fall of 2011 in Zanesville, Ohio dozens of wild animals were released from their cages by their owner who then reportedly committed suicide. This included several gray wolves. With a few exceptions that were later rounded up and taken to zoos all of these animals were killed by law enforcement. As a result lawmakers pushed for a new strict ban on exotic animals. Bill SB 310 was passed by the governor of Ohio in June of 2012.
The state of Ohio has included the gray wolf in this new law. As part of the law now effective November 5, 2012, anyone owning a gray wolf has 60 days to undergo and pass a background check, obtain insurance in case something happens, pay permit fees, obtain liability insurance and demonstrate to the state they can properly care for the animal. As well, according the to the Columbus Dispatch dated June 6th, 2012 – “By Oct. 1, 2013, owners would have to obtain a permit and pay a fee to the Ohio Department of Agriculture. As of Jan. 1, 2014, owners without permits could have their animals seized through local humane societies.”
My Pack of Wolves Sanctuary was formed August 11th,2011 due to a mutual lifelong appreciation of the wolf and its heritage and the desire to protect and fight for an animal that is routinely and widely misunderstood. My Pack of Wolves Sanctuary has joined the fight together with the OAAO to fight this bill as being unfair to owners. While the fight continues for the bill however it is the animal and its loving owner that will suffer. The fees, insurance, and permits are bound to be costly for an owner to pay. My Pack of Wolves Sanctuary wants to provide the opportunity for owners to relocate their wolves and be able to visit to be assured as to their love and care.
With your donations and contributions My Pack of Wolves Sanctuary can raise money to purchase land, build large spacious enclosures, and provide them with care and safety. There is still time before that final deadline to get land and start building and be up and running.
Mypackofwolvessanctuary.org is the website for donations and any contributions that can be made to help. There is also a volunteer page and pictures and information about our future plans as well as a page that will be dedicated to posting pictures of every step of the process from buying land to the final enclosure and launch.
There is a twitter page under “Mypackofwolves” as well as a facebook fan page.
In advance thank you and together let’s take care of these magnificent creatures!
