Many conventional supermarkets are watching Roundy’s newest foray into fresh with interest, and it’s likely some will attempt to follow their lead. Offering quality products and varied selection, unparalleled customer service and compelling pricesnot to mention pioneering a unique retail concept under the Mariano’s Fresh Market banner in Chicago POPAI is awarding the 2012 Chief Award for Retail Marketing Excellence to the fast-growing Milwaukee-based retail grocery company Roundy’s, Inc. during the 2012 Night of Honors being held on December 6 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Chicago.
Roundy’s banners have always been committed to delivering quality products and a welcoming retail experience that improves the lives of all the customers who shop there, said Richard Winter, POPAI President. The companys prowess in the area of in-store marketing and innovative retail design has helped to propel them to be one of the leading supermarket players in the country.
Roundys unrelenting focus on the customer always figuring out what they want and adapting to changing needs, particularly in tough economic times has left the retailer in a very strong position to dominate the local markets they operate in. The Milwaukee based retail grocery company, which operates five different grocery banners, has been recognized for its retail innovation, stylish design and reliability both by industry experts and shoppers alike.
As the newest retail banner added to the Roundy’s portfolio, Mariano’s Fresh Market offers a completely new take on the supermarket shopping experience. In addition to creating a relaxed, egalitarian and welcoming environment and inspiring shoppers with a rich sensory experience of sights and smells, Marianos also offers shoppers the ability to research nutrition information at a touch-screen kiosk at the front of the store and an on-site registered dietitian is available for personal consultations on diet and nutrition. Marianos plans to host wellness events and offers guides that educate customers on subjects such as a gluten-free diet. Organic and natural products are prominently displayed on bump-outs, so customers can quickly determine if there are gluten-free and organic products down that aisle.
The criteria used in determining the POPAI Chief Award includes demonstrating an effective and innovative use of marketing at retail in the overall marketing strategy, demonstrating a deep understanding of shopper behavior, and adhering to the highest business standards. As the 2012 honoree, Roundy’s joins the ranks of leading retailers having received the annual Chief Award including Walgreen’s, Safeway, 7-Eleven and Duane Read, to name a few.
