Chet Spiewak believes in the inspiration of Christmas year-round. The self-taught artist is in the midst of an ambitious Kickstarter project to raise funds for an app based on his acclaimed book, An Ornaments Tale..
An Ornaments Tale is especially unique because the buyer also can receive actual hand-painted Christmas ornaments that are featured characters in the enchanting book. The ornaments were introduced and paired with the book in December 2012.
Now, Spiewak, a Chicago resident, wants to enhance the depth and texture of illustrations in creating the app, which will also have interactive features and animation.
An Ornaments Tale follows a group of Christmas ornaments in search of their holiday tree. Currently three of the ornament characters are available as a collection for families to hang on their trees after reading the story. A successful crowd funding campaign would allow Spiewak to create ornaments for the rest of the books characters.
Spiewak said that the app will combine a digital tablet device with real objectsthe ornaments.
It takes advantage of the digital realm and transforms it into the real world when kids actually hang the character ornament from the storybook, he said. This is completely different than other storybook apps.
For as little as $ 2 or up to $ 75 or more, those who pledge funds to the Kickstarter campaign can receive the free app when it is released, a hardcover edition of the first printing of the book, the book with ornaments, an autographed hardcover book and more.
Spiewak is the author and illustrator of other books, including Vinny the Bug Man Graphic Novel Adventure. Learn more at: http://www.operationextermination.com/comic.html
