ScienceIndex.com’s Civil Engineering section covers design and construction of public works, including bridges, dams, and other large facilities. It currently contains 8,900 articles partly derived from 87 scientific Civil Engineering journals. The latest articles in this category are also available through a Civil Engineering Section RSS feed. One of the latest additions to this section covers demand and capacity management in air transportation. The authors outline a number of directions for effecting improvement through marginal capacity increases and better management of demand and available capacity and describes strategic initiatives that airlines and civil aviation authorities might undertake in response to dynamic, “real-time” developments like poor weather or schedule disruptions. The section also features an abstract on conflict-free vehicle routing. The authors developed a dynamic online routing algorithm that computes collision-free routes for AGVs by considering implicit time-expanded networks. The performance of their approach is slightly superior in low and medium traffic scenarios, but loses against the dynamic router in high traffic scenarios. Another article develops a scenario-based bilevel programming model to optimize the selection of shelter locations with explicit consideration of a range of possible hurricane events and the evacuation needs under each of those events. The authors present a realistic case study for the state of North Carolina.

ScienceIndex.com’s Communication Engineering section covers the the technologies for transmitting messages. One recently included article in this section covers link-failure and congestion-aware reliable data delivery mechanism for mobile ad hoc networks. The authors propose a link failure and congestion-aware reliable data delivery (LCRDD) mechanism that jointly exploits local packet buffering and multilevel congestion detection and control approaches for increasing the data delivery performance. It offers increased reliability and throughput and decreased end-to-end packet delivery delay and routing overhead compared to state-of-the-art protocols, as shown in results of performance evaluations carried out in network simulator v-2.34. Another article covers performance improvement using three operation modes in IEEE 802.11 DCF WLANs. The authors propose three operation modes, DCF uplink, Downlink, and CTS uplink modes to solve the unfairness problem between uplink and downlink as well as improve the performance of delay and throughput.

The site provides an advanced search feature which suggests up to ten closely related articles for a search and every displayed post.
