Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2012
With ticket sales on the horizon and talk proposals rolling in, the PyCon organizers are happy to announce the keynote schedule for the 2013 conference. Occurring March 13-21 in Santa Clara, California, the keynote speeches are always a big hit. Last years lineup of Paul Graham, Stormy Peters, and David Beazley spoke to over 2300 attendees and were a huge hit around the web. With this years attendance expected to fill the 2500 cap and online interest on the rise in past years, PyCon 2013 is on pace to break the many records set in 2012.
Eben Upton – Raspberry Pi Foundation
Eben Upton is one of the founders and trustees of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the charity organization behind the Raspberry Pi, a small single-board Linux computer which makes heavy use of Python. Upton gathered a team of teachers and computing enthusiasts in 2006 hoping to make a computer for children, reminiscent of the BBC Micro of the early 80s. After starting wide-scale manufacture in late 2011, the Raspberry Pi Model B has been making its way into the hands of many happy users young and old.
Upton, who works as an integrated circuit architect for Broadcom and previously spent time in the academic world, is sure to bring a great talk and interesting perspective to the table.
Jessica McKellar – Python Software Foundation
Jessica McKellar is a Linux kernel engineer by day, leader of the Python community by night. Known for her incredible efforts crafting the Boston Python Workshop, shes taken it on the road to share the program with groups across the US. As an organizer of one of the largest user groups in the world and member of the Python Software Foundations Outreach & Education committee, her massive efforts gained her a spot on the PSFs board of directors in early 2012.
Jessica is also a soon-to-be published author on the topic of Twisted, a project for which shes a veteran contributor. Her care for the community is evident in everything she does, and her keynote will serve as an excellent platform to reach the community she serves so well.
Raymond Hettinger – Python core developer
Raymond Hettinger is a long-time contributor to CPython, known for his intense attention to detail in his standard library work, his various online code contributions, and his talks at PyCon and other conferences. After a West Point education, becoming a certified public accountant, and a stint in professional photography, its hard to find a person with such a wide ranging background. He even found time to earn a pilots license.
His contributions to Python are gold standard work. With offerings to the decimal and collections modules, as well as the interpreters deeper internals, hes a great person to speak on Python. Raymonds talk will definitely open some eyes.
Guido van Rossum – Pythons creator
Guido van Rossum is Pythons creator and Benevolent Dictator For Life, so its fitting that hell be addressing the masses at PyCon 2013. After beginning the Python project in 1989 during a Christmas holiday break, hes taken Python with him to many places, including his current employer and PyCon sponsor, Google. As winner of several awards and having traveled the world to speak about and work on Python, Guidos presence on stage before PyCon is always a real treat.
Gathering these speakers and organizing the conference would not be possible without PyCons generous sponsors, lead by diamond sponsor Google. Heroku, Milo.com, and New Relic have pledged support at the platinum level. At the Gold level were supported by Disney Animation Studios, Wingware, Linode, PlaidCloud, dotCloud, Revolution Systems, Web Cube CMS, Stratasan, Twilio, JetBrains, RedHat, Leapfrog Online, Consyl, 2ndQuadrant, Continuum Analytics, Project Evolution, Cyan, Nebula, Optimizely, WiserTogether, and Caktus Consulting. Silver level sponsors include Python Academy, Thumbtack, Mailgun, AWeber, net-ng, devsar, DreamHost, Olark, MeetMe, American Greetings, gocept, AllTreatment, FreshBooks, ZeOmega, WebFilings, SwiftStack, Lucasfilm, and Piston Cloud Computing.
