San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2012
Taking a cue from the popular and festively irreverent international phenomenon of SantaCon, San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus with Artistic Director Dr. Timothy Seelig, are ready to ring in the holiday season with SantaConcert and newly composed and arranged music sure to become holiday classics.
SantaConcert includes a plethora of brand new, exciting pieces arranged especially for this event including the World Premiere of the completely outrageous There is no Mrs. Claus with words & music by Michael E. Dansicker, one of New Yorks busiest Broadway composers, arrangers and orchestrators. Michael Dansicker chose San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus specifically to present the world premiere of his new work, said Dr. Timothy Seelig, SFGMC artistic director. This piece is way over the top and already scheduled to be performed in cities across the U.S. following our premiere. We are thrilled to share with San Francisco first.
SFGMC is also partnering, for its December 6th performance, with Make-A-Wish to help fund a wish for a Bay Area child. Make-A-Wish has special significance for SFGMC as one of its singers, Michael McGovern, was diagnosed with a rare form of muscle cancer at the age of two. Make-A-Wish brought hope and support to Michael and his family through his wish of seeing Mickey Mouse and all the Disney characters. Make-A-Wish turned a traumatizing ordeal into something endurable. Michael is now 28 years old and sings proudly beside his brothers as a member of SFGMC.
The Chorus is joined, in the first half of the concert at Davies Symphony Hall, by the 60-piece Bay Area Rainbow Symphony orchestra. In only five years, the orchestra has already cemented its place in the bay area arts community by extraordinary artistry and community building.
San Francisco audiences have been delighted for several years by the hit song Christmas By the Bay. The song has lyrics by Clark Sterling and music by Nolan Gasser, both bay area artists. The piece was made popular by singer Tim Hockenberry and is now presented as another first being performed by a male chorus with new orchestration by Greg Pliska.
Annual Tradition of Concerts at the Castro Theatre December 24
For 23 years. SFGMC has packed the Castro Theater on Christmas Eve, December 24, for what has become a legendary Bay Area tradition of multiple concerts for community and family. The three performances at the iconic Castro Theatre on Christmas Eve began as a way for people in San Francisco who could not go home for the holidays to gather and celebrate. Over the years, the concerts have become a destination for SFGMC patrons and fans who attend from cities near and far.
