(PRWEB UK) 9 January 2013
Tech fans who received the wrong Apple gadget for Christmas can no longer return items directly to the Apple Store but could get a cash payment if they sell iPad or iPod models to Gadget Panda.
Research from Experian Hitwise quoted by The Telegraph1 shows store returns searches were up by 250% on Christmas day with the majority of people looking for information on the Apple returns policy.
Oddly, despite the scramble for information on returning items to Apple, its products were the most searched-for items before Christmas, and Apple gadgets took five of the top 20 present positions for 2012.
Experian said the data suggested elderly relatives may have been confused by the wide range of Apple gizmos, which feature similar names like iPad and iPod, and come in various versions, such as the iPad Mini.
As a result, Experian told The Telegraph, the high number of Apple returns searches were probably a case of parents and grandparents confusing the various models.
Monday (January 7), was the last day that the Apple Store would accept Christmas returns (items bought between October 27 and December 25)2. So anyone who hasnt tried to swap their unwanted iPod for an in-demand iPad yet may well have missed out.
Disappointed fans who cannot return their item to Apple now could still get some cash to replace their gift if they sell iPod or iPad models to tech recycling site Gadget Panda.
Gadget Panda accepts old iPods, iPads and iPhones, as well as smartphones and handheld games consoles, and recycles them.
Apple products were really in demand at Christmas, so it is odd that so many people wanted to know more about the Apple returns policy on Christmas Day, said Leonard Stumke, from Gadget Panda.
Its unlikely those who requested an Apple gadget suddenly changed their minds: its more likely that mums, dads and grandparents mis-read the Christmas lists and bought the wrong product.
Disappointed Apple fans who didnt jump online to try to return their item over Christmas may be out of luck now: the Apple Store officially stopped accepting Christmas returns yesterday.
For anyone stuck with an Apple gadget they didnt want, we suggest you sell your iPad or iPod to Gadget Panda, and use the cash to get something you really do want.
Gadget Panda also allows users to sell Nintendo DS or Sony PSP consoles, as well as Amazon Kindles and a range of smartphones and tablets.
Leonard Stumke added: Its unlikely that the only Christmas mix-ups happened with Apple products, so if a well-meaning friend or relative couldnt tell their 3DS from their DSi, or their Samsung from their Sony, dont worry you can sell these to us too.
Gadget Panda offers the best prices for unwanted gadgets, and users who sell iPod or iPad models to Gadget Panda usually receive payment within 48 hours.
