According to a AllFacebook report in a presentation last Thursday Facebook revealed that the future of games lies in mobile based gaming. Samuel Junghenn founder of Digital Marketing Agency Think Big Online says this is why Facebook has been re-positioning themselves for the mobile market for some time.
Its clear to any external analyst that Facebook has been focusing on the use of mobile platforms for growing their user reach and engagement. Ever since Mark Zuckerberg announced they made a mistake in using HTML5 to deliver a mobile experience the energy and focus of Facebook has been in improving their mobile apps. Said Mr Junghenn.
In the last year there has been significant growth in the number of users playing games on Facebook. On September 30, 2011, Facebook games had roughly 226 million active users, on September 30, 2012, that figure has grown to 251 active users.
Facebook said in the presentation that games were the first platform that really took with users and the growth in this area has been significant.
Theres no doubt that Facebook Games has been successful, just look at Zynga which accounts for 20% of Facebooks revenue. This is a strong indication on the success of these games and should indicate to businesses how to engage with Facebook. Said Mr Junghenn.
